Steps for Cleaning Eyeglasses

Eyeglasses are expensive. Eyeglasses are important. Cleaning eyeglasses correctly will help them last longer.

The Four Steps to Caring and Cleaning Eyeglasses

Look at Your Eyeglasses

When you take them off, look at them. Check to make sure they’re aligned correctly that screws are tight and look for scratches.

Cleaning Your Eyeglasses

Use a soft microfiber cloth to clean your glasses. Make sure to keep the cloth clean and away from dust or dirt.

Dish detergent soap will work as well. Start with warm water to dislodge any dirt, then use a few drops of detergent and rub along all sides. Clean the frame, too.

Dry with a clean, lint-free cotton towel.

Use Your Eyeglass Case

Always use your eyeglass case. Replace the case if lost or worn.

Miscellaneous Care Tips

When your glass case isn’t available, set eyeglasses upside down on the frame.

Don’t allow perspiration to stay on your lenses. It can damage lens coatings.

Hair spray can damage lens coatings, too. Use it prior to wearing your glasses and keep glasses out of the way when it is in use.

Don’t use towels that have been cleaned with fabric softener to clean your eyeglasses. Fabric softener will leave residue on the lenses.
